My wife seek divorce to marry ex-lover – husband

Friday, 02 September 2016 11:47

A 36-year-old man, Ikenna Ezenekwe, has said that his wife once demanded the termination of marriage and settlement so that she can go and marry her ex-lover.

Ezenekwe made this known when he testified in a divorce petition he filed against his wife, Jane, in a Mararaba Upper Area Court,on Thursday.

“She once told me that she was tired of the marriage and I should settle her so that she can go and marry her ex-lover who is in the village but I refused,” he said.

Ezenekwe, who resides in Orozo, Nasarawa State, asked the court to dissolve his five-year-old marriage to his estrange wife, Jane, for allegedly abandoning their matrimonial home.

He said that his wife also brought her lover to their matrimonial home to sleepover whenever he traveled.

“I opened a provision shop for my wife in 2013 at Jikwoyi, Abuja, but each time I went to the shop I see a young man named, Ugo, who always sit and cuddle her.

“Whenever I confront my wife about her relationship with Ugo, she always brushes it aside and gets angry.

“She did not only limit her relationship with the man in the shop, but she took it to my house.’’

The petitioner also told the court that the respondent had threatened to kill him.

He said that sometimes in August 2015, Jane took a knife, threatened to kill him, but he ran to the police station and report the matter.

Ezenekwe told the court that Jane was compelled to write an undertaking never to do that again.

“When we came back home from the police station, she called her boyfriend (Ugo) who came with a van, packed her belongings and left with her.

“Since December 2015, we have been living separately.

“She left me for her boyfriend and I cannot continue like this because the marriage has broken down irretrievably,” he said.

The petitioner, who urged the court to grant him custody of the two children, said he married the respondent in 2011.

The respondent was absent in court for the hearing.

The Upper Area court judge, Ibrahim Shekaru, adjourned the matter till Sept. 27 and ordered that summon be issued to the respondent.
